This special item is rare and players can acquire it by spinning Photo Disks at PokeStops and Gyms.
It has a track of upgrades that limit the amount to which an item can be upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be slotted into weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools to give an added bonus or an additional effect when the equipment is in use. They can be obtained through crafting, purchased from vendors or the trading post or looted as a reward. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be classified into two categories: type-restricted and universal. Universal upgrades, such as gemstones, can be used on any equipment. Type-restricted enhancements, like inscriptions, have to be placed on specific types of equipment in order to gain their benefits.
Most upgrade components can be retrieved from equipment that they are currently mounted in, however some are only salvageable with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool. Ascended armor or legendary gear might contain upgrade components which can only be recovered with the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrades already included in an item aren't able to be swapped out for an upgrade of the same type. Glyphs, however, are able to be swapped in and out of collecting tools.
Glyphs are able to be replaced with glyphs that are similar to the type, and any upgraded item will show the name of both its original upgrade and the one that was replaced in the hover text. improve armor can add their own name to an item they modify. This can be seen when you right-click the upgraded weapon.
Glyphs

The glyph metrics in a font can affect the layout of text. A glyph, for instance, may have a width that is the length it takes to reach the end of a font. The glyph may also have side bearings which are white spaces on the left and right sides of a font. These side bearings, also referred to as kernings affect the way that the glyph appears on the document.
Glyphs may be upgraded in the Nightmare Dungeons by visiting a Glyph Upgrade Altar. The Glyph Upgrade Altar will appear after a certain amount of time has been completed in each Nightmare Dungeon.
